Abeka has been a cornerstone of Christian homeschooling since 1972. Founded by Dr. Arlin and Beka Horton in Pensacola, Florida, it offers a complete PK–12 curriculum covering every core subject from a Biblical worldview. The program uses a traditional, teacher-directed approach with colorful textbooks, scripted lesson plans, and a spiral review system.

Families can choose between parent-led instruction using the textbooks and teacher guides, or enroll in Abeka Academy where students watch pre-recorded classroom lessons on video. The Academy option is available as both accredited and non-accredited, with the accredited path providing official transcripts and a diploma.

What to Know

Abeka is known for its rigor — the workload is substantial, and the pacing is brisk. Many experienced families recommend adjusting the 170-day schedule and trimming busywork to fit your family's rhythm. The curriculum is particularly popular for its K–2 phonics program, which many families use even if they switch to other programs later.

Pricing varies significantly: parent-led child kits run $200–$700 per grade depending on level, while the full Academy video program ranges from $580 to $1,890 per grade. No price increase was announced for 2025. The curriculum uses the King James Version exclusively and teaches young-earth creationism throughout science.
