All-in-One Curriculum — Classical — Hybrid — Christian
Classical Conversations (CC) is both a curriculum and a community — and for many families, the community is as valuable as the academics. It’s a national program with thousands of local groups where homeschool families meet weekly for guided classical instruction. CC is the largest and most visible classical Christian homeschool program in the United States.
The program is organized into three tracks. Foundations (ages 4–12) is the grammar stage: students memorize facts across seven subjects — history timeline, science facts, English grammar, Latin vocabulary, math formulas, and geography — set to songs, chants, and hand motions. The weekly community day reinforces memory work, adds hands-on science experiments, art projects, and presentations. Families practice at home during the week using the provided audio and materials.
Essentials (ages 8–12) adds intensive writing instruction using IEW’s methodology and math practice. Challenge (ages 12–18) is the logic and rhetoric stage: students engage in Socratic seminars, debate, formal logic, advanced math, and college-prep academics in a small-group, tutor-led setting.
The community structure is CC’s greatest strength. Families don’t just buy a curriculum — they join a local community that meets weekly for the entire school year. Children build deep friendships, practice public speaking from age 4, and learn in a collaborative environment. Parents serve as tutors (trained by CC), which keeps costs lower than hiring professional teachers while building parent investment.
Costs range from $500–$1,500+ per year depending on the program level, materials, and community fees. The financial commitment is significant, and the time commitment (one full community day per week plus home practice) is substantial. CC families typically organize their entire homeschool around the CC schedule.
CC is explicitly Christian. Scripture, prayer, and a Biblical worldview are woven throughout every subject. For secular families or families of other faiths, this is not the right fit. For Christian families seeking rigorous academics plus built-in community, Classical Conversations is often the program that defines their homeschool experience for a decade or more.
There are active Classical Conversations communities in the Gallatin Valley (Bozeman area) and throughout Montana.
