The Mystery of History presents world history as one unified, chronological narrative told from a Christian perspective. Author Linda Lacour Hobar weaves together the story of civilizations, empires, discoveries, and individuals in an engaging narrative style that works for read-aloud family time or independent study.
The curriculum spans four volumes: Volume I covers creation through the Roman Empire, Volume II covers the early Church through the Middle Ages, Volume III covers the Renaissance through modern times, and Volume IV covers the modern era. A typical lesson includes suggested activities at three levels (younger, middle, and older students), making it multi-age.
Activities range from simple coloring pages and map work for young children to research papers and timeline projects for older students. It integrates well with other programs — many families use it as their history spine alongside separate science, math, and language arts curricula.
Volumes cost approximately $50–$80 each and cover about a year of instruction. A companion audiobook is available for families who prefer to listen rather than read. This course has been a homeschool staple since its first publication and remains a widely used Christian world history programs available.
