Simply Music is a piano method built on the idea that playing should come before reading music, just as speaking comes before reading words. Students learn to play recognizable songs from their very first lesson, building a repertoire of pieces across multiple genres before formal music notation is introduced.
The program was developed by Australian musician Neil Moore and is delivered through certified Simply Music teachers (in person or online). Teachers set their own fee structures, so costs vary by location and format. An online home study option is also available.
Students typically learn 10-20 songs in their first few months. The method covers classical, blues, jazz, contemporary, and accompaniment styles. Music reading is introduced after the student has built confidence and physical familiarity with the keyboard.
Simply Music is popular with homeschool families because it requires a keyboard or piano but no prior musical knowledge from the parent. Many families use it as their music credit. The method works for children as young as 5 and for adult beginners.
