Touch-Type Read and Spell (TTRS)

Touch-Type Read and Spell takes a fundamentally different approach to typing instruction. Instead of gamified drills, it uses structured phonics-based word lists to teach typing, reading, and spelling simultaneously through three sensory channels: students hear the word, see it on screen, and type it with their fingers. This multi-sensory approach is built on the Orton-Gillingham method, the gold standard for dyslexia intervention.

The program is modular with 24 levels and 31 short modules per level. Each module takes just a few minutes, making it easy to fit into any schedule. Feedback is based on accuracy rather than speed, which reduces anxiety for struggling learners. Progress tracking lets parents monitor development without hovering.

What to Know

TTRS is particularly valuable for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, or visual processing difficulties. The structured repetition moves words from short-term to long-term memory, and the muscle memory built through typing acts as an additional spelling aid. Many parents report that children who resist traditional literacy programs willingly engage with TTRS because it doesn't look or feel like a reading intervention.

The program also includes subject-specific typing modules for math, science, and English vocabulary, extending its usefulness beyond basic literacy. At $15/month per student, it's a meaningful investment but significantly less than private tutoring for the same skills.
