Blossom and Root is a secular, nature-centered curriculum inspired by Charlotte Mason and Waldorf methods. Created by Kristina Garner, it covers early childhood through 6th grade with a focus on nature study, living books, art appreciation, poetry, and gentle academics.

Each level comes as a digital PDF download. Daily lessons are laid out in an open-and-go format, so there is minimal planning required. A typical day includes a read-aloud, a nature or science activity, art or poetry, and skills practice in language arts. Math is not included past Kindergarten, so you will need to choose a separate math curriculum.

What to Know

The curriculum is particularly popular with homeschool families who want a secular alternative to faith-based Charlotte Mason programs like A Gentle Feast or Simply Charlotte Mason. It is also a strong fit for families with younger children who want to prioritize outdoor time, creativity, and a slow-paced approach to early academics.

Full grade bundles run $120-162 depending on the grade level. Individual subjects can be purchased separately for less. All materials are digital PDF downloads (no printed versions available), so factor in printing costs. Most families source the recommended living books from the library.
