Spectrum workbooks are the quiet backbone of thousands of homeschool programs. Published by Carson-Dellosa, these grade-level workbooks cover math, reading, writing, science, and other subjects in a straightforward, practice-heavy format. They are available at virtually every bookstore, big box retailer, and online shop for $8-12 each.

Each workbook provides a full year of practice for one subject at one grade level. The format is traditional: brief instruction at the top of the page, followed by practice problems or reading passages with comprehension questions. Students work independently through the pages with minimal parent involvement.

What to Know

Spectrum is not a complete curriculum in the way that Saxon Math or Sonlight is. There are no teacher guides, no lesson plans, and no scope-and-sequence tying subjects together. What Spectrum provides is affordable, structured practice that fills gaps and builds skills.

Homeschool families use Spectrum in several ways: as a primary curriculum for families on tight budgets, as summer review workbooks, as supplemental practice alongside a main program, or as a quick solution for a subject that doesn't need a full curriculum. At $8-12 per book, you can cover a full year of math practice for less than the cost of a single meal out.
